HUNTER

Hunter is our founding member and the first horse we rescued in 2016. He was a dressage show horse and was abandoned at the facility where he was living. He had suffered from emotional anxiety and a severe sway back from neglect and lack of exercise. He was in danger of being euthanized due to the circumstances. Volunteers were taking care of him when our founder, Lisa Fara, rescued him, gave him a second chance for healing and living a happy life that he deserved. She spent five years rehabilitating him, fell in love with the Friesian breed and Hunter altered the course of her life forever in creating this resuce. Hunter passed on October 15, 2020 and is deeply missed. His story of their love journey is the birth of this organization.

PERMANENANT SANCTUARY RESIDENT

ONYX

Onyx came to us through the Fenway Foundation. He was purchased through a top breeder in the Netherlands and was shipped directly to his new owners in northern California in 2019. The owners experienced circumstances with Onyx that led them to surrender him for special care, training and rehabilitation at our facility. He is currently a permanent resident at our sanctuary and successfully moving through our special needs program. We are full of gratitude to welcome him into our rescue family, work with him and we love his presence here at LFHR.

REUNITED WITH OWNER

WHITE SHADOW

White shadow, a purebred Andalusian, came to us one rainy day when a call came in that a horse was seen roaming around in the mountainside free and close to the freeway. He was described as being very anxious and distressed. We immediately ran out to rescue him and spent two hours connecting with him to welcome him into our rescue family. We really enjoyed having him with us, he had suffered, from a previous life, severe whip and chain scars on his legs and face from Charro dance training. We worked very closely with Los Angeles Animal Control to secure a safe reunion with the owner who had lost him. We were sad to see him go, however, so happy to help him be reunited with his family.

ACE

Ace was a beautiful American Paint Quarterhorse that came to us for behavioral training and a mild soft tissue injury. We worked with him for several months and he had a great experience here. He suffered from a shoulder injury that we worked with through groundwork and rehabilitation care improving his flexibility and he returned back to his owners and is living out a happy life in Apple Valley, California.
